Outstanding Native High School Award Nomination Form

We are excited to announce that this year we will have the 3rd Annual Tewaaraton Outstanding Native High School Player Award and University Club Foundation Scholarship at the Tewaaraton Awards Banquet on May 29, 2008. This award will go to one Native male and one Native female high school lacrosse player. The two winners will be invited to the Tewaaraton Banquet to accept their award and be part of the celebration in Washington, DC.

We are counting on each of you, as lacrosse coaches of high school athletes, to nominate your most outstanding players. The Player of the Year will be awarded based on the following criteria:

Nominee must prove Tribal heritage. Player can self-identify with written support from a Tribal official or other enrollment evidence (e.g., Tribal enrollment certificate or card, Bureau of Indians Affairs card, etc). Considerations will be made for other special circumstances.

Nominee must be enrolled in secondary school and be in good academic standing.

Nominee should exude a very high level of lacrosse skills, good sportsmanship and leadership on and off the field.

Additionally, nominees are asked to articulate what lacrosse means to them as a Native American player. Since one of the primary goals of the Tewaaraton Award Foundation is to honor the sport’s Native American roots, the selection committee will weigh this aspect of the application very heavily.

A male and a female selection committee have been assembled. Their task will be to review the nominees and name a winner. The selection committees are composed of past Tewaaraton Trophy winners, retired college lacrosse coaches, Native coaches and others.

Please consider nominating one of your players for this year’s Tewaaraton Native High School Player of the Year Award. The nomination form is below. Please fill out the form and return to me along with your nominee’s personal statement/piece etc. by April 23rd, 2008. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

All the best,

Liz Terry
