IROQUOIS LACROSSE PROGRAM
MEDIA RELEASE

(Thursday April 2, 2008 – Six Nations of the Grand River) - Cam Bomberry, Director of Lacrosse and Kevin Sandy, Director of Operations are pleased to announce that Iroquois Lacrosse has a range of youth leadership programs, motivational sessions and instructional camps for First Nation, Métis and Inuit communities, lacrosse associations, clubs,  youth centers or schools interested in hosting a clinic/camp and/or learning more about The Creator’s Game.

“Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports in North America and we felt it was important to assist our communities by providing leadership and interactive lacrosse clinics, combined with a message of encouraging youth to stay in school, remaining active and making good decisions in their chosen path,” said Cam Bomberry, Director of Lacrosse.

Having played professionally and for the Iroquois Nationals World Field Lacrosse and World Indoor Lacrosse Programs, Mr. Bomberry recognized early in his youth, there’s a world of opportunities for youth, not only in lacrosse, but in chasing their dream and aspirations.

“With only 50% of our people completing high school, we knew it was important for us to design a program that assists young people with goal setting, understanding the importance of remaining focused, staying in school, staying active, eating well; all while learning about the importance of sport and recreation and what the game of lacrosse can offer to skills development and teaching people about working together.”

“Both Kevin and I have been facilitating lacrosse instructional camps for many years in First Nation and non-native communities in Ontario, New York, Nova Scotia, California, Florida, Arizona and countless other locations and we both felt it was important for us to assist people in not only understanding the game but showing individuals what opportunities exist for them by chasing their dream, and never giving up,” stated Mr. Bomberry.

Kevin Sandy, said, “Our vision is simple, we want to provide leadership, motivational and instructional that inspire youth, and if they can have some fun, enhance their skills and knowledge, and understand why it’s important to stay active and stay in school, then we are doing our job of sharing and communicating key messages to the younger generation.”

Program Descriptions

We have developed programs that are designed to inspire, educate and teach the importance of building self-confidence, staying active and doing the best you can do as an individual to achieve your goals and dreams. We use active living and participation in sports and recreation as a catalyst for change.

Youth Leadership Program

The foundation of the Youth Leadership Program (YLP) is based on self-awareness and knowledge. We truly realize our potential by knowing what motivates and inspires us as individuals.
Having this foundation assists people in rendering good decisions as we progress throughout life. Inspirational and motivational sessions offered by guest speakers are used as tools to illustrate to youth what they can realize with a dream, vision and/or goal-setting. Real life experiences are used to show individuals what is possible.

Talking about community is important as the root of all good things comes from core values that have been passed down from generation to generation. We not only learn from our experiences, we learn from our families, grandparents, nation and community role models. We combine all of the above with the following activities: important of training, cultural relevance, interactive instruction, fun skills/drills, team building activities and inspirational messages.

The YLP is the bundle of arrows that promotes unity and allows individuals to draw from their strengths to achieve what they want out of life. The program is offered over 3 days but can be broken down into 1 to 2 day sessions depending on the objectives, expectations and budget considerations of the school, club, association or organization.

Iroquois Lacrosse Camp – Sport Specific

We offer box, indoor and field lacrosse instructional sessions for 1 to 3 days offered by Directors and Instructional staff who have professional, international, national or provincial lacrosse playing, management and coaching experiences. We tailor the program to the objectives and budget of the organization, club, school or association who require our services.

Motivational Speaking

Our Directors and Instructional Staff are also available to conduct motivational and inspirational sessions to young students, youths, schools, communities or international countries who truly want to understand what the game is all about and why it’s important for people to strive for excellence and commit to achieving their goals.
